SpaceX Fails To Launch

Falcon 9 Rocket and Dragon Cargo Ship Mission Rescheduled for May 3

A glitch in the planned spacecraft launch occurred Friday when the SpaceX Falcon 9 engines were shut down just as the rocket was about to take off at the Cape Canaveral Air force Station in Florida. The problem was first noticed by the ship’s onboard computer, which detected that the chamber pressure in one of its engines (engine 5) was outside its acceptable value. This occurred a half a second before its scheduled launch. Thus, history is on hold right now.

SpaceX is attempting to be the first private company to launch a space craft.

The event is hugely historic since the Obama administration canceled NASA’s shuttle program last year. NASA is gambling on commercial companies to take cargo to the International Space Station (ISS).

In a press conference held Friday night, SpaceX said that they will try it again on Wednesday, May 23.
