A new National Anthem: 21 percent of Americans say yes

Do we need a new National Anthem? Some may disagree, but 21 percent of Americans think the Star Spangled Banner should be taken down and “Born in USA” rock star Bruce Springsteen should compose a new one.

The suggestion was made in an online poll conducted by the CBS current affairs show and the Vanity Fair Magazine. Nineteen percent thought Dolly Parton is equally capable of composing the new Anthem. She was followed by Bob Dylan and soundtrack composer John Williams. Eight percent thought of rapper Jay-Z.

The margin of error of plus or minus was three percentage points of the 1,026 adults interviewed over the phone.

The Star Spangled Banner has been the official national Anthem since 1931.
