Las Vegas is always hot, particularly in the summer. But still there are opportunities to stay cool and stay moving with popular events around Las Vegas pools for kids and families alike. Below, you will find entertainment for everyone to escape the heat and the boredom of staying at home.
Dive In Movie Night is there for kids to thrash about, burning energy in the pool while adults can join them or relax with the movie to play on the big screen. At $3.00 per person, light refreshments will also be provided. Swim time is Friday, June 15, 6 to 8pm and Friday, July 6, 6 to 8 p.m. Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive.
Yankee Doodle at the Pool at participating pools on Tuesday July 3 will spice the refreshing old dip for kids with water games and activities at $1 for ages 4-17; $2 for ages 18-49; $1.50 for ages 50+; and free for ages 0-3. The event is 2 to 6 p.m. at Doolittle Pool 1950 N. J St and noon to 4 p.m at Baker Pool, 1100 E. St. Louis Ave; Carlos L. Martinez and Darrio J. Hall Family Pool at Gary Reese Freedom Park, 889 N. Pecos Road; Municipal Pool, 431 E. Bonanza Road; Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive.
For those who prefer to stay on land, dance― as in the Contra Dance― is fun for singles and families over eight with live acoustic music of the fiddle at the Charleston Heights Arts Center on 800 S. Brush St. After a Contra Dance 101 session for newcomers starting 6:30 p.m, reels and waltzes will be called from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Flat-soled shoes and casual clothing are all that are necessary to participate on Sat., Aug. 4. There is a door fee of $10 for adults; $5 for members of the Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers which cosponsor the event and for students and military; $3 for children under 16 and non-dancing adults.
