After five years of marriage, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are to split.
Holmes hired a divorce attorney, confirmed to The Times by the office of New Jersey divorce attorney Jonathan W. Wolfe who will be representing Holmes. However, the office declined to say if she has begun the divorce process on Friday.
“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” Wolfe said. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
Cruise, 49, and Holmes, 33, have a 6-year-old daughter, Suri.
“Katie has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children,” Cruise’s publicist said in a statement, according to ABC. “Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”
This will be Cruise’s third divorce. He was previously married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, and they have two children together. This is Holmes’ first divorce.
