American Idol is set to start its 12th season in January 2013, but none of last season’s judges have a contract to date. Perhaps this fact is what is fueling the rumor mills with predictions that suggest a whole new cast of Judges will be chosen to replace the entire lot.
Perhaps the greatest amount of chatter swirls around season-eight runner up Adam Lambert. Reports from sites such as Hollywoodreporter.com (THR) and E! News say that Fox has been negotiating with Lambert over the last month. “He knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the judges’ comments, he has a human touch and they know they can’t go wrong if they bring him on,” according to sources know to E!.
However, THR reports that Lambert has denied the story, saying that “If idol wants to talk to me about Judging, I’d be more than flattered to have that conversation.” So for now, it’s perhaps only a rumor.
Nevertheless, that has not stopped a free flow of information and gossip suggesting that Idol’s Exec Producer, Nigel Lythgoe, believes a few changes might curb slipping numbers.
E! has hinted that “sources behind the show’s scenes have leaked Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Fergie, Will.I.Am and Katy Perry [are] among the names producers are yet considering.” In addition, names like Lady Gaga and even Elton John have been distributed amongst several media reports.
Nevertheless, Katy Perry can perhaps be removed from one’s short list since she tells “The Hollywood Reporter” that “People have reached out to me about the possibility of being involved, and it’s not right for me yet… it’s a real commitment to be on one of those shows. … I have ideas for two or three big, creative things, and I want to be able to fulfill those ideas.”
Until we hear from Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez or Steven Tyler, I suspect these rumors will run until they are gushing in on reality. However, one thing you can believe is true; with Lopez, Jackson and Tyler unsigned for season 12, something appears to be getting ready to hit the fan.
