Doomsday 2012: Surviving the Event Part 2

By Jim Donahue

In my last article, I told you to acquire some weapons and start stocking foodstuffs.

Weapons.

Weapons are available in almost every state legally, and I would not suggest getting them any other way. Buying weapons from illegal sources has its drawbacks, and I vote against it. If your state doesn’t allow gun sales or has a strict protocol that will prevent you from purchasing them, look to the states that border your state. Chances are, you can find them there. No matter what state you live in, there are gun shops that sell weapons. What you have to do in order to obtain these weapons is the problem. The best and easiest way to obtain a weapon is from a private seller (check the classifieds of your local newspaper), or at a gun show. The rules for purchase are different and much simpler in these types of forums than from a gun shop. You will also need to stockpile ammunition, which can be very expensive. You would be smart to buy and learn how to reload your expended brass shell casings, so as to have more available bullets once purchases of new ammunition are no longer available. Remember, the one with the most bullets wins. And you will need alternate types of weapons.

A bow and arrow comes to mind; however, shooting them properly and hitting the intended target are very difficult and require extensive practice. A crossbow shoots more like a gun but also has its drawbacks, reloading quickly being the main one. You will need your weapons for protection as well as hunting, so use your available ammunition wisely, and try to preserve as much as possible for as long as possible. Knives, swords, and machetes are also readily available. Check your local swap meet for these. You should always have lots of these “hand to hand combat” type weapons available to you, as they do not require ammunition, only a little skill and the willingness to use them. Believe you me, when someone or something is threatening you or your family, your willingness will come to the fore.

Canned goods and water are the essentials. Canned soups, chili, pasta, spam, etc, are the easiest to consume whenever you need to start eating them. You can eat these types of food without heating them, as they are already cooked before they are sold to the consumer. Always check the expiration date on the can and look for the longest shelf life. Remember, there probably won’t be any electricity, so be prepared to cook over a fire, or some other source. Sterno is a good alternative heating source. For those of you not familiar with Sterno, Sterno is a small can of jellied fuel that you can light with a match or a lighter, and set a pot or some other type of utensil over and heat your food up. You may have seen a Sterno canister before in a buffet serving line, under the metal tray of food. These are very handy and you should stock up on them.

A 7 oz can of Sterno lasts up to 7 hours, if used continuously, a 2.5 oz can 45 minutes, and the gel can be extinguished and be re-lit without affecting the products performance. Also it will not freeze, and has a 2 year shelf life.

And also stockpile matches and cigarette lighters. Waterproof matches that will strike on any surface are best, and safety matches are not recommended. A flint for starting a fire, ala the Boy Scouts is a good idea, because you may run out of matches at some point.

You can obtain gallon jugs of water almost anywhere food is sold. Another option is a 2.5 gallon container, with a pull out spout. 5 gallon buckets of your home tap water is an option, as lots of people have a reverse osmosis system installed in their house. Water weighs 8+ pounds per gallon, and carrying it around will be hard, on top of the food you are carrying. If you are going to be stockpiling water, you may have to prepare it for long term storage.

As I said previously, your chances of survival in the big city are remote at best. So scouting for a place to go if something happens is a good idea. Getting into the mountains is a good plan, and a forest or thick wooded area is best. Available water would be the first thing on your list of potential places to go. Most states have a division of wildlife that will have a map that will include things like, but not limited to, bike, atv and off road trails, railroad lines and spurs, and guzzlers. Now for those of you not familiar with this term, a guzzler is a catchall for rain water frequently used out west, and in my case, Nevada. It’s mostly desert here in Nevada and available water is scarce. The guzzlers were put in place so wildlife has a place to access water when none is available at their favorite watering hole. So getting near a guzzler is a good idea. And not just for the water, but for food as well. Animals know where these guzzlers are, and when they come looking for water, your dinner will be available soon.

Traveling on or next to railroad tracks maybe the only way to get anywhere. The highways will probably be jammed with cars trying to do the same thing you are, only you will have the advantage if you plan ahead. There probably won’t be any trains on the tracks, as rail companies will prepare for these things and keep their trains in the rail yards.

You will also need to try and find some place that other people don’t go. This will, be hard, but if you look around and check the tracks leading to the place you think is less traveled, that may help. And be sure to cover your own tracks, by tying several tree branches behind your vehicle or drag them behind you if you’re walking.

These are just a few things you can do to increase your chances of survival in case of a catastrophic event. Some of you want to survive, some of don’t think anything will happen, and some just don’t care. My brother Tommy says that when something like this happens, he’s just going to run towards it and jump right in. I say why not prepare. Saving food and water can’t hurt, if nothing happens just eat the food and drink the water, right? But have a plan at the ready.

People don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan.

Similarly, the Christian Good News published heavily of Sept/Oct 2011 about “Will the world end in 2012″. In their article, they denied about a planet which is described in Scriptures as destroyer (Jer. 48:8). The published denied 2012 and the destroyer. In fact, around the world, many people have captured using filter a planet beside sun. Even CNN has also published unintentionally about a planet beside Sun: see 3rd last photo – http://edition.cnn.com/2012/06/21/world/gallery/summer-solstice-2012/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

Christianity pastors preached that no one know the hour of the judgement day. But Sha’ul (English: Paul) wrote at 1 Thessa. 5:1-4 that sons of light shall know the timing and the season.

      Shelby,

I totally respect your belief in God above, and all people’s beliefs, whether they be religious based or otherwise. However, the last line in your comment says it all for most people “Having faith in the Lord is if you really trust in God you wouldnt be scared of anything but him and you would respect him!!” You say we shouldn’t be scared of anything but him. That’s the problem most people have with organized religion, i.e. why should we fear Him? My God is a compassionate and loving God, and would never ask me to fear Him, but instead sees me as an equal, and as such would never put Himself above me. And lot’s of people feel that way. Thank you for your comments and have a blessed day. Enjoy! Jim Donahue

The word does say fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom. The reason to fear him is if God doesnt “know you he has the power to cast your soul into hell. We were created in his image but are not his equel, hence loucifers fall. The 2nd comming is to gather his people and judge humanity. If you ask jesus into your heart, make him lord of your life then u will be covered by his blood. Thus not punished. Seek a bible based church, get involved and watch the creator work in your life!
