DUI DRIVER LEAVES LVMPD MOTORCYCLE OFFICER IN SERIOUS CONDITION

On July 28th, 2012 at approximately 8:05 p.m., LVMPD Traffic Officer Michael Contreras was involved in a vehicle collision while on duty in the area of Lake Mead, East of Simmons. Officer Michael Contreras is 27 years old and has been employed with LVMPD since December of 2007.

Officer Contreras was operating his LVMPD marked motorcycle Eastbound on Lake Mead Boulevard East of Simmons when an older model Ford Ranger pickup attempted to turn into the parking lot of the Dotty’s Casino located on the Southeast Corner of Lake Mead and Simmons and drove in front of Officer Contreras.

Officer Contreras impacted the truck and was ejected off of his motorcycle. He was stabilized at the scene and transported to UMC Trauma for treatment. Officer Contreras sustained a broken wrist and head injuries. A CAT scan of his torso did not reveal any internal injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was evaluated at the scene by Traffic Officers where he failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The driver has been identified as 45 year old Jack Bradford of Washington, Utah. Bradford was subsequently arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for felony Driving Under the Influence with Substantial Bodily Harm, Failure to Yield to Oncoming Traffic, Failure to Obey Red Light, No Insurance, Vehicle Registration Violation and Non-Resident Cancelled/Suspended Driver’s License.
