Las Vegas: 69th traffic related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2012

On July 23, 2012, at approximately 1:57 PM, an Auto/ Auto / Auto fatal injury traffic collision occurred on Fort
Apache Road in the intersection of Red Hills Road. Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicate the
2013 Ford was traveling southbound in the center travel lane of Fort Apache Road approaching the intersection
of Red Hills Road on a green traffic light. The 1979 VW was in the left turn lane of northbound Fort Apache Road
at the intersection of Red Hills Road with a permissive green traffic light. The VW turned left entering into the
travel path of the Ford. The right front of the Ford struck the right rear of the VW causing both vehicles to rotate.
As the VW rotated, the driver was ejected out of the vehicle landing on the roadway. The driverless
VW continued to rotate striking the left side of 1997 Acura which had just entered the southbound right travel
lane of Fort Apache Road from Red Hills Road. The Ford traveled southbound, while rotating, coming to a stop in
the northbound travel lanes of Fort Apache Road. The driver of the VW was pronounced dead at the scene by
responding medical personnel. The drivers and occupants of the Ford and the Acura claimed minor to no injuries.
This is the 69th traffic related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2012. The collision remains under investigation
by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.
