Steven Tyler announces that he will not return for a third season as judge on TV’s biggest shows American Idol.
In a statement from Fox publicity, he said, “After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,” said Tyler. “I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band.”
According to Tyler, Aerosmith plans to release a new album in November and presumably a tour to follow.
Simon Fuller, the show’s creator, said, “Steve Tyler is a real Idol, a rock legend…American Idol will miss him.”
There is no official word as to who might replace Tyler. It’s not only Tyler who is leaving as a recent interview with one of the show’s other judges suggested. Jennifer Lopez said to Natalie Morales on The Today Show on Thursday, “it’s maybe time for me to go,” and today on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, the actress-singer made it official when the host said, “you’re breaking up with me,” Lopez confirmed.
Rumor has it that Lopez asked for more than $17 million, and Tyler just wanted to rock.
Earlier, it was reported that the runner-up for season 8, Adam Lambert, may replace the show’s other host, Randy Johnson.
Who do you think should replace the judges? Ozzy Osbourne?
