I remained hopeful that the extremists on the right would use intelligence instead of emotion, and make some sort of attempt to heal our country. Yesterday I was forced to admit that the ignorant and ill- informed may actually become the ruling party in our once great country.
My closest friend of 26 years sent me an e mail. The text placed blame on President Obama for infrastructure jobs in the United States being farmed out to Chinese contractors and workers. The video, an ABC piece anchored by Dianne Sawyer, clearly pointed out that it was the governors of two states who made these decisions. And one, a republican, refused stimulus money, and spent state money awarding the contract to repair a bridge to China. He personally attacked me when I told him the premise of the e mail was a lie. Our friendship has ended.
President Obama has done an incredible job, given what he inherited. Clinton began our economic decline by sending jobs to other countries, and giving those corporations tax credits for doing so. Then “W” wages two wars, costing us trillions of dollars, continuing Clinton’s deregulation of the banking industry and Wall Street, allowing the basis for a once solid economy to entirely collapse.
Now badly informed Americans want to elect “W” junior and his running mate who proposed the most extreme “trickle down” budget ever. To do so they will lie about Mr. Obama and every other democratic candidate running for office. For three and one half years the extremists have attempted to destroy everything this president has attempted to accomplish. Worse yet, for the first time in my 66 years, I have witnessed personal attacks waged against our nation’s leader. No other president has ever been so disrespected.
I know the overly rich in our country are afraid of him. When the senate minority leader told his constituents that their only goal was to make Mr. Obama a one term president, I was sickened. Have we become so narrow minded in this country that we cannot look at the effort being made by our President? Have we become thugs who are arrogant enough to think that our way is the only way? Freedom, innovation, and creativity once made our country great. Sadly, arrogance, ignorance, greed, racism, and bigotry are trying to destroy it.
