The Chicken Wars
By James Turnage:
Okay, all you “pretend to be” Christians, I want an explanation. You’re getting your ten minutes of fame, thanks to a multi-millionaire who shot his mouth off, and made a comment about same sex marriage that has no basis in the real world. I just wish you would get your facts straight.
There is no phrase, statement, or word in the bible attributed to Christ taking a stand for or against same-sex marriage. So before you say, “it’s God’s will,” tell me where you read that, or did you just hear it from someone standing at a pulpit telling you to believe as he or she believes? If you have no proof, then you are simply a homophobe. This also makes you un-Christian. The definition of a Christian is someone who follows the teachings of Christ. He told us to love one another unconditionally, to love one another as we love ourselves.
The rest of the civilized world has no problem with homosexuality. Why does America? It’s because of wanna-be Christian radicals who want to control our minds. Contrary to the claims of clerics, many of whom receive incredible incomes, donated by their flock of sheep, we are not a Christian country. Our country was founded on religious freedom, not on the belief in one religion being superior to another.
The press quickly admonishes Islamic extremists, but ignores Christian extremists. Christians may not have attacked us on 9/11, but they attack abortion centers, African-Americans, and homosexuals, and they do it in the name of God.
I would join our founding fathers in their quest and struggle to create a new country based on religious freedom. Their revolt against the Church of England was a just and honorable cause we should all support today. What we should not support is a dictatorship by leaders of organized religion who enjoy the power, prestige, and wealth created by bigotry and racism.
