The reports at this moment, 10:44 PDT, are telling us a Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, about 12 miles south of Milwaukee, has been attacked by two gunmen. As many as twenty people have been shot, according to text messages sent from inside the temple. There are reports that one gunman is still inside, and is “down”. A police officer was shot several times, is receiving treatment, and is expected to survive. To paraphrase a popular quote by NRA members, “guns don’t kill people. Crazy people with guns kill people.”
For those of you who remain uninformed, Sikh’s are not Muslims. The Sikh religion was founded in the 15th century, in the Punjab region of India.
As of noon, Pacific time, 6 people are confirmed dead, 5 are in critical condition, and one gunman has been shot and killed by an heroic police officer. There were approximately 50 to 60 people in the temple when the gunmen burst in. If the gunmen had arrived a little later, there could have been 300 to 400 worshippers in the building.
It will be some time before all details are confirmed. Tactical squads have been searching parts of the temple. There is no word as of yet as to the type of weapons used by the perpetrators, but several victims had multiple wounds.
