Saturday night the sluts gathered in front of the Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas.
They listened to speakers and then marched down the Strip. Speakers
included SlutWalk Las Vegas organizer Gabrielle Amato, Tara Broshun of Planned Parenthood Southern Nevada, Mel Goodwin of The Center, which serves the LGBTQ community, and Trish Steffen of The Shade Tree, a women’s shelter.
SlutWalk is a protest group that marches in various cities to bring awareness to some of the issues that rape victims face in attempting to pursue justice. SlutWalk began when a policeman in Toronto, Canada, told a victim she asked for it by dressing like a “slut”.
Like the older, more well-known Take Back the Night, the Las Vegas SlutWalk protestors marched in the dark, but many of them also wear “slut” clothes.
Many of the protest signs featured the word “slut,” but there were a wide variety of hand written slogans. After the march, the walkers returned to the Erotic Heritage Museum for a tour and after-party.
