Contrary to Christian Ministers, Christ Does Not Hate Gays

By James Turnage:

Monday, California governor Jerry Brown signed legislation banning reparative or conversion therapy for anyone under the age of eighteen. This is therapy debunked for decades which is designed to convince teenagers who believe they are gay, that they are wrong and are going against God’s will. He said, quote; “They have no basis in science or medicine and will now be relegated to the dustbin of quackery.”

Here are some of the mental health organizations that sided with Governor Brown and supported his signing of the legislation: The California State Board of Behavioral Sciences; The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists; And the California Psychological Association.

But some Christian organizations and ministers continue to use the procedures and prayer to rid young people from the sinful inclination to become gay or lesbian. (They obviously know better, some of them claim God talks to them.) Gay rights organizations claim they are doing long term harm that may result in severe depression and even suicide.

As expected, Conservative organizations and Christian ministries make their usual claim that the legislation inhibits the rights of parents to protect their children from the undue influence of homosexuality. As usual, the rights of minors are, at least according to them, nonexistent. Unless of course it’s a fetus, and then the mother has no rights.

I was raised to accept all people, white, black, Asian, Jewish, gay, and even Christian for who and what they were. I was taught not to prejudge anyone. I’ve always thought that was the intelligent thing to do. That is why I, and I alone made the decision not to like the extreme right in our country. Their mission is to make us all the same. If it’s true that what I was told when I was young, that God made us in His image and likeness, who do these extremists look and act like?
