Few in northern Nevada, and even fewer in the southern part of our state, know much about Reno’s mayor.
In 1979 Bob Cashell was elected to the Board of Regents of the University of Nevada, Reno. He was immediately elected Chairman by his peers. In 1982, he was elected the state’s Lt. Governor. Working with Governor Richard Bryan, they created the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, and the Nevada Commission on Tourism. He later served as Chairman of both commissions.
In 2002, he was elected as Reno Mayor, and was re-elected in 2006, and 2010. He has been an owner of successful businesses in the casino industry. He has also been an advisor to successful casinos throughout Nevada and other legalized states.
On Tuesday, the 74 year old Mayor underwent open heart surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital to repair a valve. He is expected to fully recover according to doctors and family.
All of northern Nevada wishes him the best, he has served the community well.
