With the breakup of Russell Crowe and wife, Danielle Spencer all but official, there are some interesting alleged claims that have come to light. Over the summer Spencer was photographed getting cozy with her pro partner on the Australian edition of “Dancing With the Stars;” Damian Whitewood. In June many believed that her marriage with Crowe was on the rocks and that she had turned to Whitewood out of loneliness. Crowe and Spencer dismissed the rumors and they made a big show of their love at Los Angeles airport several days later. The usually guarded Crowe happily locked lips with Spencer in front of the paparazzi and many commentators believed he was in “damage control.”
Today the Sydney Morning Herald reports, the couple are no longer together.
In the beginning, Danielle had grabbed Russell’s attention when the pair were filming “The Crossing,” approximately 22 years ago. Their relationship went on with just a few small partings along the way. The most talked about split came with his “Body of Proof” co-star, Meg Ryan. Not long after that relationship had run its course, Russell and Danielle reignited their flame and wonderfully tied the knot.
When the pair married in a chapel on Russell’s farm in the Coffs Harbor hamlet of Nana Glen in NSW, all of Australia seemed to celebrate the union before the pair moved into an apartment on the Woolloomooloo wharf, then moving into a ‘family home’ in the eastern suburb of Rose Bay.
Russell typically avoids the Hollywood trappings that others tend to get caught up in. Of late he’s been hanging out with his kids when at home, supporting his beloved Bunnies, working on many projects including his love for music and exercising seems to have been his activities of choice.
He has thrown himself into all of those, posting various tweets explaining how many kms or sit-ups he has done as well as keeping his followers up to date on his films.
At the moment he is in ‘Noah’ mode, while he also finished “Les Miserables,” in which he stars with Hugh Jackman. He has other films coming out in the next 12 months – “Man with the Iron Fist,” “Broken City,” “Man of Steel” and the “Winter’s Tale.”
This morning, Russell’s rep in Australia, Grant Vandenburg issued a pleasant ‘No comment’ regarding the whole situation. On the other hand, a representative for Danielle has confirmed the separation.
Russell and Danielle seemed like the ‘perfect’ couple. They both share a passion for their kids and their crafts. Acting and music for Russell and music for Danielle, with Danielle using her time on the last “Dancing With The Stars” series as an appropriate way for the Australian public to ‘get to know’ the usually reserved, understated, measured, calm and graceful young woman.
The couple’s two children, Charles, 8 and Tennyson, 6, made an unexpected appearance on that dancing show, both hugging their mum in their sartorially exquisite little suits. Russell had taken them along to a taping of the Melbourne show, as their mum climbed further and further up the winning ladder.
Like any relationship they had their ups and downs, but the amicable parting of this one has come as a shock to most observers. Whether it was the constant long distances; the more simplistic fact that the relationship has run its course or there are other ‘private’ reasons, so far the pair have handled their split with dignity and grace. And most importantly they look to be keeping the welfare and privacy of their two beautiful boys on top of the list.
The 48-year-old Oscar-winning actor and his 43-year-old singer wife have gone their separate ways, with Crowe turning his undivided attention to his acting career after the split, said the report.
The couple have parted on friendly terms, the children remaining with Spencer while her now-estranged husband continues filming the biblical epic Noah in the US.
The report has come as a shock to show business circles in Australia because the couple were regarded as a having a strong marriage despite the demands of their careers, with New Zealand-born Crowe in constant demand for film roles while his wife, whose mother is English, has managed caring for the children as well as singing and appearing on Australian TV.
The Sydney Morning Herald said Spencer was the quiet, unassuming woman who tamed the Gladiator with her calm and steady nature.
She once said of her husband’s fame and fortune that ‘all that stuff has nothing to do with me as a person.’
Despite the general belief that they were a strongly-bonded couple, some critics were surprised to note that Spencer had been photographed on a night out with Damian Whitewood, her dance partner in a tv show, Dancing With the Stars, a few months ago.
Crowe made a big point of dismissing rumors about their relationship later when he gave his wife a lingering kiss in front of the cameras at Sydney airport.
But the demands of his acting career have kept him away from Spencer for much of this year.
He has also missed most of the games of the Sydney rugby league club in which he has a financial interest and has left his wife to care for their children.
He said of Spencer after their marriage that the thought of marrying her had crossed his mind the first time he had met her.
Spencer was careful with her words when her husband was involved in a phone-throwing incident in a New York hotel seven years ago after he was unable to get through to her.
‘ I’m not condoning his behavior,’ she said. ‘I don’t want to make excuses for him because I’m certainly not. ‘But I do understand when you’re apart that the loneliness kicks in.’
Crowe, who was famously linked to Meg Ryan during his less-tame days on the set of the 2000 romantic drama “Proof of Life,” is also filming Noah, a biblical epic co-starring Emma Watson.
Crowe’s last posting on his Twitter account was asking followers if there were “tickets still available for tonight’s show at the gramercy” and updating them on his exercise regime: “Yesterday 11.6km bike ride to work,30 mins yoga, light weights today so far 14.5 km stat bike,20 mins light weights.”
