A Chemical Bomb Threat at CNN Center Atlanta Leads to Police Closing of Several Streets

Atlanta, GA – An unknown man phoned 911 this morning telling the operator he had planted a chemical bomb at the CNN Center in Atlanta. Police responded by shutting down Marietta Street in downtown Atlanta between Spring Street and Andrew Young Drive early Friday morning.

Atlanta Police Capt. Adam Lee said. Police have closed off several downtown streets and sidewalks around the Center, including Centennial Olympic Park Drive NW between Georgia Dome Drive NW and Nassau Street NW.

Officers are sweeping the CNN Center for any suspicious people or packages following a phone threat who also told 911 Operators he was at the location with the bomb.

The sprawling complex is home to CNN, several restaurants and shops and an adjoining hotel.

Several police vehicles and fire trucks were at the scene, which is just south of Centennial Olympic Park.
