Beaumont, Texas: 50 Car Traffic Accident Closes Interstate 10, Reports of Numerous Injuries

Beaumont, Texas – Approximately 50 cars have collided in a traffic accident that has closed Interstate 10 near Beaumont, Texas, according to public safety officials.

The automobile accidents started around 9 a.m. and by 9:30 the freeway was closed in both directions near mile marker 833, said Stephanie Davis, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Beaumont district.

Numerous injuries were reported, though none have been identified as life-threatening, the spokeswoman said.

Davis advises motorist to avoid the route entirely as the freeway is shut down for about two miles.

Officials are still sorting out the accident and dealing with injuries and routing traffic around the area.

Davis adds that officials have no estimate of when the freeway will reopen. “We’ve got too many crashes going on, so we’re still working on that.”

Heavy fog was reported in the Houston area most of Thanksgiving morning, including along the stretch of I-10 west of Beaumont. Davis said preliminary indications suggest the wrecks occurred as a result of a low visibility.

The Guardian Express will deliver an update on this terrible accident as soon as we receive news.
