The Israeli military began pounding the Gaza Strip several days ago and hasn’t stopped yet. The hostilities began over a misguided mortar shell landing in the southern part of Israel near Tel Aviv, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “Anyone who thinks that he can harm the daily lives of southern residents and not pay a heavy price for it is mistaken.”
Israel added fuel to the fire on Wednesday, killing the head of Hamas military operations in the Gaza Strip, Ahmed Jabari. You may remember Jamari, Commander of the Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades in Gaza, and was the Hamas lead negotiator in the swap of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in 2011.
Hamas has told Israel to beware because it had “opened the gates of hell,” and they were prepared to make this the final fury. Hamas has been seeking to re-establish the Gaza fighting every since an Islamist regime was put in place in Egypt, and with the Syrians embroiled in a massive civil war, drawing Israel into a fight while their main focus is on Lebanon and Syria seemed like a good bet.
But Israel is up to the task, and Palestinians are fearful that the newly elected Arab government in Egypt is partly to blame. Initially Hamas was not blamed for the errant mortar attacks, but unnamed Israeli sources now say that Hamas has been coordinating the strikes with the radical Salafist groups that have entered through Egypt. A truce negotiated by Egypt was broken by Hamas on Wednesday, and Israel responded in kind.
Fears of all out war were envisioned as Israel has called up 30,000 reserve troops, and has moved tanks and armored vehicles to the immediate area of the Gaza Strip.
“We are in the process of expanding the campaign,” Israel’s top military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Yoav Mordechai told Israeli’s Channel 2 television on Thursday night. Gen. Mordechai, said earlier on Thursday that military commanders had approved dozens of new targets in Gaza. Leaflets fluttered from the skies over Gaza around midday, warning residents to stay clear of Hamas personnel and installations ahead of continuing Israeli attacks. Army tanks joined the fray also on Thursday, firing shells at targets inside the coastal territory.
With the civil war in Syria spilling over into Turkey and Lebanon, and now the Palestinians and Hamas fermenting a potential bombshell war in Gaza, Religious leaders Worldwide are proclaiming that biblical prophecy’s are set to come true.
