Lindsay Lohan lacks extraordinary beauty of Elizabeth Taylor says “Liz & Dick” producer
Larry Thompson, executive producer of Lifetime’s upcoming biopic “Liz & Dick,” recently told reporters the cold truth of what actually happened during the movie’s production. “I turned 50 shades of white” Thomson said in a morning conference call. “We had serious challenges to deal with due to her probation and her history… therefore; we had to make a deal where there were pages and pages of “what if” clauses.
Thompson also implied, as we shall point out later in this report, that Lohan lacks the extraordinary beauty that Elizabeth Taylor possessed.
It’s not difficult to imagine that Thompson had to wisely insure Lohan for every possible incident that might cause him to take a loss on his investment. With that in mind, it’s fair to assume producer’s premium ranged exponentially higher than average everyday superstar.
According to Thompson, Lohan “might be the most insured actress who ever walked on a soundstage.” The producer goes on to say: “We tried to insure ourselves against things that could and, in fact, did happen.”
It’s no surprise to learn that Thompson was completely covered last June when Lohan was involved in a widely publicized car accident while filming “Liz & Dick.” The producer claims he was forced to take an insurance day.
Despite the challenges, the veteran producer says; “we got and the movie we were able to make because of her, the pain was worth the pleasure. And the audience is going to benefit from the risk we took and the reward that was gained.”
Thompson says that Lohan’s performance is flawless. He believes that Lohan’s performance will remind people why she became a star in the first place. “I know there are a lot of people out there who are naysayers,” Thompson said, “And I think they’re gonna be shocked—and people who have believed in her, their belief is gonna be vindicated.”
The 26-year-old actress had to fight for the role of Elizabeth Taylor, opposite Grant Bowler, who plays Taylor’s longtime love, Richard Burton.
According to the U.K.’s Mirror, Lohan is quoted to have said; “I fought to get the role in Liz and Dick because I related to her so much because of her position in the public eye and the media obsession with her, and the ups and downs in her relationships and life,”
Lohan is also hoping to lose her “bad girl” image, according to the Mirror. “I love acting and that’s what I started out doing and it’s unfortunate that people began to know me as a celebrity rather than an actress,” she told the Mirror. “I can only hope to gain respect back through my work.” Adding, “I’ve drawn from experiences and from things I’ve seen and grown up with and I don’t want to go back.”
According to Thompson, it was Lohan’s troubled up-bringing that made her perfect for the part.
Nevertheless, “Producing a movie with Lindsay Lohan is not for the faint of heart,” Thompson said, stating the obvious, early on in the phone conference call.
Thompson did the phone conference to promote the bioflick’s Nov. 25 premiere; while Lohan stars as Liz, New Zealander Grant Bowler plays acclaimed thespian and two-time Taylor husband Richard Burton.
Thompson noted, “I’ve certainly worked with actresses whose behavior during production was less problematic than Lindsay,” but insisted she was perfectly cast.
Taylor and Lohan have so much in common, Thompson pointed out. The movie opens when Taylor is 29-years-old — Lohan is 26.
Both were child stars who grew up not knowing much about the outside world, and hounded by paparazzi. Famed Italian director Federico Fellini actually coined the phrase “paparazzi” when he saw the photographers on motorcycles buzzing around her and Burton taking photographs, Thompson told the reporters, which appeared to be news to most of them. Plus, Thompson added, Liz was also famous for her boozing.
Plus, Liz Taylor had, and Lohan has, “a reckless and wanton disregard for the norm” which people “find…fascinating to watch,” Thompson said. “[Lohan] literally at this time in her life knows no boundaries. And that becomes dangerous, that becomes exciting.”
Elizabeth Taylor differs from Lohan in one respect, Thompson acknowledged: “Elizabeth Taylor had extraordinary beauty.” That was one below the belt.
Thompson comes with his own strange connection to Taylor. He’s been obsessed with her since he was a child because his mother used to drill it into his head every year on her birthday that it was also the birthday of Taylor, “the most beautiful woman in the world.”
So naturally, Thompson and wife named their now 10-year old daughter Taylor, after Liz. “My mother drilled Elizabeth Taylor into me my whole life and when my daughter was born… we said, ‘We’ve got to name her ‘Taylor’,” he explained, as though that made sense.
And, he cast Taylor as Richard Burton’s daughter by a previous wife in the flick — also casting his son as Liz Taylor’s son with actor Michael Wilding, a.k.a. Husband No. 2.
And, now that the ordeal is over, Thompson said when people ask him if the trial by fire was worth the result, his response is, “I think my mother would be proud.”
“People will see that Grant Bowler as Richard Burton just steals your heart and Lindsay Lohan breaks it,” added the producer. “I’m guardedly optimistic that the public will like the movie very much. I believe if everybody takes a deep breath and focuses on her artistry instead of her antics, they will enjoy a pretty riveting movie.”
