Los Angeles Lakers could give Phil Jackson chance to win a 6th championship.

He May Get Number Six

by James Turnage:

FOX Sports is reporting that “there is a 95% chance that Phil Jackson is returning as the Los Angeles Lakers coach”. He won 5 titles with them between 2000 and 2010. His leadership ability added to the talent of four superstars gives him a great chance to win a 6th championship.

Owners Jim and Jerry Buss decided not to use a ‘wait and see’ approach with now former coach Mike Brown. Mitch Kupchak told the press that with their huge payroll, and a group of aging stars, an immediate decision was necessary. The Lakers were 0-8 during the pre-season, and went 0-3 as the season began, finally winning their first game against Detroit Sunday, only to lose again on Wednesday to Utah.

This may be a good move for more than the Lakers. The NBA has multiple problems, including attendance. I lived in San Diego when the Clippers were still there. When the better teams and better players were in town attendance more than doubled. With Phil Jackson at the helm, and players of great talent including Pau Gasol, Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, and Kobe Bryant, ticket sales will probably increase significantly in whatever cities they visit.
