Huntington Beach, CA – Extreme metal band “Suicide Silence” is mourning the sudden death of frontman Mitch Lucker who died early Thursday, morning following a motorcycle accident late last night in Huntington Beach, California, reports “The Press-Enterprise.
The Orange County coroner’s office said Lucker was hospitalized after a motorcycle accident shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday and was pronounced dead at 6:17 a.m. Thursday at UCI Medical Center in Orange County.
“There’s no easy way to say this,” the band said in a statement on their Facebook page. “Mitch passed away earlier this morning from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. This is completely devastating to all of us and we offer our deepest condolences to his family. He will be forever in our hearts.”
Huntington Beach police were investigating the crash and expected to release details Thursday morning.
The 28-year-old lived in Huntington Beach but grew up in Riverside.
Vocalist, Mitch Lucker, guitarists Chris Garza and Mark Heylmun, drummer Alex Lopez and bassist Dan Kennya formed the Suicide Silence in 2002. A native of Riverside, Calif., Lucker led the band to a Revolver Golden God award for “Best New Talent” in 2009.
In 2007 the group released their debut disc “The Cleansing” and followed that by the well-received discs “No Time to Bleed” and “The Black Crown,” which was written in Big Bear. During his tenure, Lucker and his bandmates also won a Revolver Gold Gods Awards for Most Innovative Band.
“We wanted to make this aggressive, heavy or fast music. It’s fun to play; it’s something to do on a summer’s night, because there’s nothing to do. It’s like, ‘Yeah, let’s have a show.’ That means everyone gets together,” Lucker said in a 2011 interview.
Lucker, who was known for his colorful, heavily tattooed look, leaves behind a young daughter.
Suicide Silence toured on the Mayhem Festival in 2008 and 2011.

The band’s label, Nuclear Blast Records, issued a statement that reads as follows: It is with great sadness and regret this morning that we have to report that Mitch Lucker, vocalist of SUICIDE SILENCE, passed away a few hours ago due to injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident.
