The Collector is a 2009 horror film Written and Directed by Marcus Dunstan, with help from Patrick Melton. It follows the trials and tribulations of Arkin, (Josh Stewart) an ex-con, trying to live the straight life as a handyman, to no avail.
Returning to his criminal roots, he attempts to crack the house safe of his latest clients, the Chase family. Problem is, in the interim, they have become the “Collector’s” latest victims, and Arkin will be one shortly.
“The Collector” is a serial killer, and is best known for his elaborate entrapment devices and murderously blocked escape portals, all leading to the death of his intended victims in gruesome fashion.
In The Collection, Arkin returns, and is once again captured at one of the Collectors famous entrapment parties. Upon his escape, he finds himself at the hospital recovering, and once again is abducted, this time by the parents of a girl, Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick) who is entrapped by the Collector at the same party as Arkin.
The parents then convince Arkin to help find their daughter, through blackmail, with the help of some private Mercenaries hired by the family.
They then enter the Collectors booby-trapped dungeon in an attempt to rescue the beautiful Elena, and encounter numerous sadistical rituals all designed to scare and frighten the actors as well as the movie going audience.
Co-Writer Patrick Melton said this about the possibility of a sequel to the Collector. “I didn’t think it necessarily would happen because while the movie did well for its budget, it certainly wasn’t a blockbuster, but it did well enough that the film’s producer, Mickey Liddell, wants to make a sequel and of course wants me and Marcus to be involved again. So we are seeing if we can work out some sort of a deal for us to write it and for Marcus to direct, but right now it’s just in the deal stage. It is a possibility. I couldn’t imagine it being made without Marcus directing it.”
