On December 8, 2012, at approximately 10:45 PM, an Auto/ Auto / Fixed Object fatal injury traffic collision occurred on Jones Boulevard near the intersection of Empire Circle. Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicate a white 1994 Honda Civic was traveling southbound in the left travel lane of Jones Boulevard approaching the intersection of Empire Circle. An unidentified vehicle, possibly an SUV or Mini Van, was also traveling southbound in the left travel lane of Jones Boulevard  just ahead of the Honda. The Honda entered the center two‐way left turn lane to pass the unidentified vehicle on the left. When the Honda attempted to re‐enter the left travel lane it made contact with the left front of the unidentified vehicle. The contact caused the Honda to rotate clockwise out of control. The Honda left the roadway to the right striking a chain link fence and concrete wall bordering a residence.  Both occupants of the Honda sustained injuries and were transported to UMC Trauma. At UMC, the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead by attending medical personnel. The unidentified vehicle and driver failed to remain at the scene of the collision and is wanted for questioning regarding this incident.  This is the 103rd traffic related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2012. The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.
