Las Vegas: mother arrested for child neglect following bus stop traffic accident

Russi, Kimberly Marie

Also Charged with Neglect of Second Child Who was Uninjured in Incident On Monday, December 10, 2012 at approximately 6:40 a.m. LVMPD patrol officers responded to a bus stop near the intersection of North Las Vegas Boulevard and Walnut Road to investigate reports of a traffic accident involving a Clark County
school bus and a six year old male juvenile. An investigation initiated by traffic officers indicated prior to the accident the child was waiting near the bus stop for a school bus. As a bus approached the student pickup area, the victim entered the roadway and the approaching bus ran over the
child’s right foot. The child was transported to the UMC Trauma Center where he was treated for substantial but non-life threatening injuries. Traffic officers determined the bus which struck the juvenile was not the bus which he normally rides, and the bus driver was not at fault in this accident.
Due to the circumstances of the incident LVMPD Abuse/Neglect Detectives responded to the scene. Detectives determined that both the victim of the traffic accident and his slightly older brother were routinely sent to the bus stop without supervision. As a result of their investigation, detectives arrested the child’s mother, Kimberly Marie Russi, a.k.a. Kimberly Dela Cruz, 31 years of age of Las Vegas. Russi was transported to the Clark County Detention Center where she was booked for: Child abuse or neglect with substantial bodily harm, one count and Child abuse or neglect, one count. A booking photo of Russi accompanies this release.
