Las Vegas: Random highway shooting is actually murder-for-hireOne Suspect In-custody, Another Still At-large Concerning Attempt Murder Plot LVMPD Detectives have unraveled an apparent murder- for- hire plot after a man was shot while driving on the highway north of Las Vegas. On Wednesday November14th at

approximately 5:30 a.m. a male victim called LVMPD 9-1-1 Communications to advise that someone had shot out the window of his vehicle as he drove along I-15 near the Valley of Fire. Shortly thereafter, the victim realized that he had been injured in the
attack.

NHP Troopers and medical personnel responded to the scene, and the victim was transported to UMC. At the hospital it was determined that the victim had been shot in his head. The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and he was treated and released with superficial wounds. Based on the attempted murder, LVMPD Detectives were summoned. Subsequent investigation revealed that the victim had begun divorce proceedings against his spouse and that there is a substantial life insurance policy that ends when the divorce is finalized.

Richard William Pearson, 39 years of age of Las Vegas was identified as the second suspect in this crime. As a result of tips from the community and an investigation conducted by the LVMPD Criminal Apprehension Team, Pearson was taken into

custody on December 12, 2012, at approximately 4:00 p.m. in the 4500 block of Birdsong Way in Las Vegas. Pearson is currently housed at the Clark County Detention Center where he faces charges of Attempted Murder with Deadly Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Battery with a Deadly Weapon Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm and Violation of
Conditions of Parole.
