Las Vegas: Suspect charged in robbery spree after gunfire exchange with police

On December 17, 2012 at approximately 1:40 a.m. a LVMPD patrol officer was dispatched to the 4600 block of East Charleston Boulevard in response to an armed robbery to a citizen. While on the way to the dispatched call, the officer observed an altercation taking place outside of a business in the 4300 block of East Charleston Boulevard.

The officer observed a male subject run towards the back of the business. As the officer followed and exited the patrol vehicle, the male produced a handgun and fired at the officer, striking the patrol vehicle. The officer, who was not injured, returned fire. The suspect was uninjured and was taken into custody by other officers without further incident. The suspect was subsequently identified as 23 year old Angel Montoya.

During the investigation, it was determined Montoya was in the process of committing an armed robbery when discovered by the officer. He was also involved in an armed robbery to the business in the 4600 block of East Charleston Boulevard, as well as an earlier armed robbery to a business in the 6300 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard.

A vehicle with a female driver was stopped near the crime scene and was also found to be involved in the series of robberies. The driver was identified as 20 year old Mayre Rosales.

Montoya was arrested and charged with:
Attempt Murder of a Police Officer,
Possession of Firearm by a Prohibited Person,
Assault with a Deadly Weapon,
Possession of Stolen Property,
3 counts Burglary with a Deadly Weapon,
4 counts Robbery with a Deadly Weapon, and
3 counts Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.
Rosales was also arrested and charged with:
Attempt Murder of a Police Officer,
3 counts Burglary with a Deadly Weapon,
4 counts Robbery with a Deadly Weapon, and
3 counts Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.
