Long Island Expressway Remained Closed Following Tractor Trailer Crash and Fire-7New York: The Long Island Expressway is shut down in both directions in Suffolk County due to a blaze of fired rapped around a multiple vehicle accident.

The collision and subsequent fire has injured more than a dozen people.

Aerial shots from News-12 Long Island show 10 to 20 vehicles apparently involved in this crash. Cars and trucks are strewn across the highway.

Police say the accident happened near Exit 68 in Shirley at 2:40 p.m.

Cars, trucks collide, a tractor trailer was making it way down the free way when suddenly collided with a car causing the vehicle to burst into flames and numerous other vehicle subsequently collided into the flames.

At least 32 vehicles were involved, officials said.

Several ambulances and fire trucks responded to the scene. At least 14 people were transported to hospitals with injuries. Officials said some of the injuries are serious.

The Long Island Expressway is closed eastbound at exit 66 and westbound at exit 69. The road will be closed for several hours.
