Mayan calendar forecast apparently mistaken: 12-12-12 was not the end of the worldBy James Turnage

I was so frightened. But, if I’m here writing this, and you’re reading it, we all made it. Those who forecast the end of the world on this date, 12/12/12 based on the end of the Mayan calendar were apparently mistaken.

For the last couple of weeks I haven’t been worried about the “fiscal cliff”negotioans, North Korea launching an intercontinental rocket, who would win American Idol, or if Lindsay Lohan would have to serve more jail time.

I had only one fear, that I wouldn’t wake up tomorrow, 12/13. This was a serious threat. The last time I was this afraid was when I lived in Los Angeles near the ocean, and some were predicting that we were going to have a major earthquake and fall into the sea. I’m not a very good swimmer.

I’m a lucky man. I’ve survived earthquakes, heavy snow storms, a devastating layoff, the break-up of Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, and even Justin Bieber being snubbed by the Grammy nominations.

What will be the next threat? Will the sun burn up within the next 50,000 years? Will there be a new ice age in 100 years? Will gays be allowed to get married and destroy the institution? Will Taylor Swift stop recording music?

I’m only sure of one thing. I’m afraid for the future of our country. Our federal government is a failure. They won’t do their job. Those of you who still work for a living would be dismissed immediately if you refused to perform the tasks you were paid to do.

Face it America, we have elected a group of spoiled kindergarten brats. Tell them to grow up and act like responsible men and women. Talking to the press does not solve the problem. By a 2-1 margin the voting public favors President Obama’s plan. Boehner, get over it. You lost the election, move on. We have bigger problems in the United States than the present situation referred to as the “fiscal cliff”. If we can’t get over the first obstacle we’ve come to after the nastiest election in history, what will happen or not happen in the next four years. Pitiful.
