Now we are down to Michigan(2) as the lone undefeated team in the country. North Carolina State(20) beat the Duke Blue Devils(1) this afternoon 84-76 at home. This was the first loss of the season and the first time Duke has really been challenged in a game since playing Ohio State on Nov 28th, a game in which Duke won 73-68.
Duke looked to be ready to pull away with a 27-19 lead with a little under nine minutes left in the first half. NC State tough had other plans, they stormed back , with Rodney Purvis throwing down a monstrous dunk during the push and took a 41-39 halftime lead and never looked back.
NC State shot a little of 50% from the floor to Duke’s 37%. Richard Howell led all NC State’s performances with 16 points, 18 rebounds, and 2 steals. C.J. Leslie led all scorers with 25 points, Lorenzo Brown had 12 points to go along with his 13 assists.
Seth Curry led Duke scorers with 22 points, and Mason Plumlee had 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
The loss will vault Michigan(2) into the number one ranked team in America, giving the Big Ten two teams ranked number one this season with Indiana, the preseason number one, holding the top spot earlier this year before a loss to Butler in overtime on Dec 15th.
