The millions of viewers who followed the public ceremony of the inauguration of President Barack Obama were in amazed at Beyoncé singing the national anthem, but some say that the brunette’s voice was “playback.”
AP reported that Sergeant Kristin DuBois said the band was informed last-minute that the voice of Single Ladies would use a track. Hours later, the Marines rejected these statements.
The spokesman for the agency, Gregory Wolf, said that Beyoncé had no chance to rehearse with the band of Marines and that a live performance was somewhat risky. She arrived late Sunday night.
“Because she didn’t have time to rehearse with the Marine Band, she decided to use her recording with the Marine Band,” the official added. “It was all Beyoncé.”
“As for the vocal performance of Mrs. Knowles-Carter, no one in the Marine Band is set to assess whether it was or was not recorded live,” Wolf said via a statement.
“She did not sing live,” the official told CNN. A pre-recording of the artist’s rendition of the National Anthem was played instead. What spectators and viewers heard was the sound of that recording, according to the official.
The official said Beyoncé made the decision herself the night before Inauguration Day.
While clarifying the situation of “playback,” now the R & B singer will have to demonstrate that she can offer a wonderful live show, since on Feb. 3, she will star halftime at the Super Bowl. There still is no answer from Beyoncé.
As news of the lipsyncing emerged, thousands of Beyoncé fans expressed their thoughts on Twitter:
“We live in an age of liars, from Lance Armstrong, Manti Te’o to Beyoncé. We must adapt or die. Ladies, I was all state in High School.”
“I refuse to believe that Beyoncé was lip synching sorry GOVERNMENT”
“Saw the news do a story about Beyoncé’s performance at the inauguration . . . um isn’t there REAL news to report???”
“So I just found out that Beyoncé didn’t lip synch…she just sang over a pre-recorded track”
