CHICAGO – Calumet (005th) District officers escorted several residents from a burning residence after they observed flames shooting from a second floor window. On January 26, 2013, at approximately 2:55 am, 005th District officers, Brian Rix and Jason Toliver, were on routine patrol in the 200 block of W. 109th St. when they observed smoke coming from a window. The officers, quickly gained entry through a front door, and were able to awaken all the occupants of the residence. The officers then safely escorted 5 adults, including a young child from the burning building as fire department personnel and assisting units arrived on the scene. Fire personnel were able to extinguish the fire and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
