A commuter ferry slammed into the dock in New York this morning. 53 commuters were injured. Most of those injured were standing up or on stairs eager to disembark. One passenger suffered critical head injuries, seven were seriously injured.
The “Seastreak” ferry crashed into pier 11 just before 9 a.m. suffering a huge gash in the starboard side of the hull. The ferry left Highlands, New Jersey at 8 a.m. and struck a loading barge it was passing while attempting to dock.
The Seastreak Ferry Company operates 5 high speed Catamaran style boats, carrying as many an 149 on each.
Passengers with minor injuries described being slammed into walls and seats. Some of those injured were bleeding heavily.
