At approximately 6:30 p.m. the LVMPD Dispatch Center received a call of a possible shot fired and a man lying on the ground in front of an apartment building located in the 4500 block of East Bonanza Road. Arriving patrol officers located an adult male suffering an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The male, later identified as 24 year old Michael Roy Smith of Las Vegas, was transported to the UMC Trauma Center in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation initiated by Homicide Detectives indicated several males had been outside of the residence on Page Street and became engaged in a verbal dispute. Multiples shots were then heard. One person was deceased at the scene and the remaining males fled. Smith proceeded to the apartment complex on East Bonanza Street where he suffered what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The
investigation into the homicide on Page Street has identified Smith as the suspect in that crime.
Michael Smith was arrested and booked in absentia for one count of Murder with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Attempt Murder with a Deadly Weapon and remains hospitalized. A previous booking photo of Smith accompanies this release.
