President Obama’s proposed gun control

GOP response
Ignoring The Facts

The reaction from the radical right in regards to President Obama’s proposed gun control initiative was predictable. They prove once again that they support the lobbies who support them, and are anti-women, and oppose the safety of children. As President Obama said earlier today, “if even one child could have been saved by a change in gun laws, it would be worth it”. The Republican Party, or as I like to call them, “the men who live in Fantasyland”, don’t care about you or your families. They care about money.

The tragedies I have seen in my lifetime, 6 decades, put me into the “no guns at all movement”. I would like to see every weapon, whose sole purpose is to take the life of another human being, be removed from sale. Shotguns and hunting rifles have a real purpose. And don’t try and tell me the previous two weapons would be ineffective in defending your home and family.

Not supporting the ban of assault rifles and high output magazines is both ignorant and criminal. One ignorant statement came from obvious presidential hopeful, Republican Marco Rubio of Florida. He said: “None of the Obama proposals introduced would have prevented the Dec. 14 bloodshed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 20 school children and six adults were killed.”

What if his mother had not possessed an assault rifle? End of argument.

He went farther to blame the mentally ill for all tragedies committed by the use of a gun: “President Obama is targeting the second amendment rights of law abiding citizens instead of addressing the real underlying causes of such violence. Rolling back responsible citizens’ rights is not the proper response to tragedies committed by criminals and the mentally ill.”

Wrong again. The access by anyone who wants to possess a weapon of mass destruction is easily obtained. If a murderer of innocents is killed or commits suicide before he or she is examined, how can we prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they were mentally ill?

I won’t even list Republican Representative of Texas Steve Stockman’s remarks. He is of the Rush Limbaugh school of thought, and doesn’t deserve to be heard. (Besides, look where he’s from.)

Rubio continued to blame the mentally ill for all of the tragedies committed in every part of the United States. This summed up his entire argument, and ignored the facts.

Here are the facts Mr. Rubio. More women and children are killed by guns in the U.S. than criminals. And they are killed by men who knew them well. Mass murders only emphasize the hypocrisy of the most gun crazy nation on the planet. Since the slaughter at Sandy Hook Elementary School occurred, 900 of our citizens have been murdered by the use of guns.

I commend President Obama for his courage. He is the first President to challenge the gun lobby of the NRA. No other President has stood for innocent people against the special interest groups represented by them previously.

The arguments against the ownership of military style weapons far outweigh the arguments for allowing private citizens to own them. Always remember, this is not an ideological argument. This is an argument that puts what is the right thing to do against corporate greed. Do not ignore the facts that billion dollar corporations only have one goal, and that goal is not to care about the lives of the majority of the citizens of our country. Their goal is to make money.
