The podium at the Inauguration had barely cooled when Republicans began to criticize President Obama’s speech.
In a speech that resonated well with the American people, addressing our disappointment about several issues during his first term, Mr. Obama gave us hope that our country can return to a nation for all the people. He not only addressed social security and Medicare, but important issues for the future of not only the United States, but also the world such as climate change, equality for gay men and women, and immigration reform.
Mitch “the turtle” McConnell, Senate minority leader, was the first to say that the President was “returning to an era of liberalism”. If what Mr. Obama proposed was “liberalism”, then God bless him. He never mentioned one special interest group. All of the causes he championed included 100% of our nation’s citizens.
The extreme right wing lobby, (whose very name denotes which special interest group it supports), Americans for Prosperity labeled the speech “highly ideological, and “a liberal laundry list”. I would not have expected less from this group of white, very rich men. Their entire purpose is to ensure that America continues to be divided as a nation of “haves” and “have nots”.
Republican congressmen and right wing lobbies such as Americans for Prosperity would love to have “W” back in office when they got everything they wanted at the expense of the country’s welfare, and the “prosperity” of the working class. In case they haven’t noticed, he is so disgraced he didn’t even make an appearance at the inauguration. And, yes, he was invited.
