Sacramento’s New Years Eve fireworks abruptly canceled after handgun shootingThousands of men, women, and children were gathered in Sacramento’s Old Town New Years Eve to see a fireworks show at 9 p.m.

A fight began in a sports bar and spilled out into the street. Shots rang out, and the result was 2 dead, and at least three injured. People in the street ran for cover.

Witnesses reported a man holding a handgun and screaming incoherently.

The police have not given any information about those shot or the shooter. In a precautionary measure, a police helicopter flew over the area and announced the cancellation of the midnight show. Police on horseback sealed off the area.

Once more possession of a gun made it unsafe for families to share what should not be a dangerous experience. Wayne LaPierre must be right. It’s time we armed everyone in the country. There simply weren’t enough lives lost Monday night to please the NRA.
