Serena Williams wins in 1st round despite injury
Despite rolling her ankle in today’s match, Serena Williams showed why she is one of the greatest to ever play the game of tennis. After rolling her ankle and taking a medical timeout Serena Williams would go on defeat her opponent in straight sets.
Serena was up 4-0 when she was pulled into the short court by a slice backhand by her opponent Gallovits-Hall. Gallovits-Hall swept a wide forehand to the far court and as Serena stretched to get it, she lost her balance and fell to the court. Serena laid on her back for a short time before the chair umpire and Gallovits-Hall went to assist. Still, unlike last year’s injury Serena was able to get back up, continue her match and get the win.
It took Serena just under an hour, 54 minutes to be exact to defeat Gallovits-Hall 6-0, 6-0.
After the match Serena Williams was confident in playing in the second round of the Australian Open as she stated this; “Oh, I’ll be out there. I mean, unless something fatal happens to me, there’s no way I’m not going to be competing. I’m alive. My heart’s beating. I’ll be fine.”
So fans can look forward to seeing Serena Williams match up again as she looks to play in the second round of the Australian Open.
