Argentina Struck By Powerful 5.9 Earthquake
ARGENTINA: A powerful 5.9 earthquake shook Santiago Del Estero, Argentina early today. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the seismic event struck 111 km (68 miles) E of Santiago del Estero.

The quakes epicenter gave residents of a nearby towns a violent jolt.

Initially the trembler was reported as registered 6.4, but the USGS quickly downgraded the quake by approximately .5 points.

According to reports the quake hit on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 12:01:58 UTC.

It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries or damage, but the earthquake was not only felt in Santiago del Estero, the provincial capital, it was also felt Suncho Corral, Anatuya, and Quimili.

While it is too early to know any more than we’ve already reported, the Guardian Express will certainly update this report as soon as we obtain news on the ground in Argentina.

    The words 5.9 and powerful don’t go together. Perhaps it was a moderate earthquake but powerful??? Says who?
