Dallas: Sergeant McCollum will be honor officer of the year

Once again, Success North Dallas will sponsor the 2012 Dallas Police Department Officer of the Year ceremony on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 7:00 AM. The ceremony will be held at Prestonwood Country Club, located at 15909 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas. This year’s recipient is Sergeant Rector McCollum, #4333, a 32-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, who is currently assigned to the Youth Division.  Sgt. McCollum has held previous assignments that include Central Patrol, Tactical Division, Fugitive Unit and Northeast Investigative Unit.

Sergeant McCollum has spent his career as a volunteer for several organizations. He volunteered his time as Mason of the Scottish Rite organization best known for their charitable hospitals for children. He also served as a volunteer on the Hughston Elementary “Community Site Based” Committee Program geared at enhancing the school’s academics. He was the driving force behind the Department having a bagpiper. He learned to play the instrument and performed solo at many events. The Dallas Police and Fire Pipes and Drums organization exists thanks to Sergeant McCollum’s vision. These are just a few of many accomplishments by Sergeant McCollum that earned him the honor of being selected as the Officer of the Year.
