Olympic Hero Murders Girlfriend

Oscar Pistorius is a double amputee.  Fitted with what are known as “blades”, he competed in the Paralympics.  That was not enough for him.  The South African petitioned the I.O.C. to allow him to compete in last year’s Summer Olympics.

Police have charged the man nicknamed “the Blade Runner” with the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, 29.  Steenkamp, a model, was found deceased from a bullet wound in Pistorius’ upscale home in Pretoria, South Africa early Thursday morning.  The two were alone in the residence.  Neighbors heard the noise, and called police. A 9mm pistol was found at the scene.

An officer at the scene said that there had been previous incidents of a “domestic nature”, but would not elaborate.

Twitter records show she encouraged her followers to “get excited” about Valentine’s Day.  On Wednesday, she tweeted, “It’s a beautiful day! Make things happen. Starting my day off with a yummy healthy shake from my boo,” followed by a smiley face. “Boo” is a term for boyfriend.

“She was the kindest, sweetest human being; an angel on earth and will be sorely missed,” Capacity Relations, the agency that represented her, wrote on Twitter.

Nike pulled an ad featuring Pistorius from its website Thursday. The ad showed Pistorius taking off for a run, and contained the words” I am the bullet in the chamber.”

Police say Pistorius is cooperating with them.  He is set to appear Friday before the court.
