Reagan Gomez – Preston stars in new web series ‘Almost Home’
There are not many positive Black TV shows but strides are being made to change that, from Kerry Washington being a Black woman with her own show to Tyler Perry producing hit shows like ‘House of Payne,’ and ‘Meet the Browns’ for TBS and now taking his ‘For Better or For Worst,’ show to Oprah’s OWN network this fall. Black television has come a long way and even BET has produced some classy, original scripted shows as of late. Over the years there have been many great shows such as ‘The ParentHood,’ ‘Bernie MAC,”The Cosby Show,’ ‘Hawthorne,’ ‘A Different World,’ Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ and many others before and after.
Recently, the cable network BET begin airing shows like ‘Second Generation Wayans,’Reed between the lines,’ ‘Let’s Stay Together’ and also brought back the hit show ‘The Game.’ Though, the show went through some changes once on BET it still continues to have a strong following. Yet fans wonder when will the next season begin, or will it return. The same goes for the hit show ‘The Boondocks’ that aires on Adult Swim. Years have lapsed since the last season and even with a season 4 on the way fans must wonder what is the hold up.
Leaving many Black filmmakers, actors and actresses choosing to ditch mainstream Hollywood and create shows and movies with their own vision and ideas. Some also fund their own projects and many may not receive the success like Tyler Perry or star in their own show like Kerry Washington but for many getting out their ideas and sharing their creativity with their fans and just doing what they love is just as satisfying.
For instance Reagan Gomez, a veteran actor who has acted in such hit shows and movies as THE ‘Parent’ Hood,’ ‘Moesha,’ ‘That 70’s show,’ ‘Jerry Maguire,’ ‘Smart Guy,’ ‘One on One,’ ‘ER,’ ‘JAG,’ ‘The Soul Man,’ ‘The Cleveland Show,’ ‘Dysfunctional Friends,’ ‘What Goes Around Comes Around (play.) Recently, Reagan wrote and produced her first short film entitled ‘This Time.’ Now, the veteran actress is taking her talents to the internet again to star in the new web series ‘Almost Home.’ The series follows siblings Lisa and DeJuan as they move to Southern California after the death of their mother. Once there, they meet Becca played by Denyce Lawton who helps Lisa find a job.
