Shakespeare (14th) District Police Officers foiled a strong armed robbery that occurred in the city’s
Wicker Park neighborhood last night. Two male offenders were apprehended and successfully charged with robbery.
Michael Jones, 18-years-old, of the 4400 block of S. Greenwood Ave. in Chicago, and Albert Hill,17-years-old, of the 4500 block of S. Calumet Ave. in Chicago, have both been charged with one count of felony robbery.
On March 13, 2013, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man was walking home on the 1300 block of N. Leavitt when he observed a person approaching him from behind. At that time, one of the offenders grabbed the victim around the neck in a choke hold and threw him to the ground. The offenders then removed the victim’s I-phone from his coat and took his wallet before fleeing on foot.
Officers arrived on the scene and were able to track down the GPS location of the stolen phone using an iPhone application, which led them to the Damen Blue Line stop. The signal began traveling
southbound at which time officers notified OEMC to stop the train at the Division street stop. The officers boarded the last car where they found two males matching the description of the wanted offenders. Jones and Hill were then positively identified by the victim and placed into custody. The victim’s phone and property was recovered from the offenders. Jones and Hill were scheduled to appear in bond court later today at 26th and California.
