Woman Pulled Off Citilink Bus and Shot to Death

A woman was riding on a city bus when a fellow passenger, a male, pulled her off of the bus and shot and killed her.  The gunman ran between houses, and is reported to be holding a 3 year old hostage in a house.  This occurred in a quiet neighborhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The incident happened at 7:53 a.m. in a residential community and near a local elementary school.  Witnesses say they have no idea what prompted the man to shoot the woman, but it appeared that she knew her assailant.

A police canine unit was dispatched and tracked the perpetrator to the residence in which he is now surrounded.

There were several witnesses outside of the bus. Children were walking to school, and some were waiting at bus stops.  As a general precaution, the two elementary schools nearby were locked down.

Citilink General Manager Kenneth Housden said police will be reviewing video and audio equipment from the bus for their investigation.

Housden said the incident, though tragic, was an isolated one and people should continue to feel safe on Citilink buses.

“We do take safety and security very seriously and respond very quickly to any incident,” he said.

This is a tragedy that I would have never expected to happen. I drive that bus in the evenings. I was speechless when I heard this. They were always together.
