Jessica Upshaw, Mississippi State Representative, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.
Jessica Upshaw, Mississippi State Representative, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. While officials are not calling it a suicide at this time, Upshaw was found at the home of former Mississippi State Representative, Clint Rotenberry, who has not been arrested.
The crime scene unit is investigating Rotenberry’s home and has been working the crime scene trying to determine what happened, according to Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman, Warren Strain. While Strain would not comment on the cause of death, it does not appear to be from “natural causes” and confirms Upshaw died from a gunshot wound to the head.

“I have known Jessica for many years as an unselfish and dedicated public servant,” Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) said in a Sunday statement. “This is a tragic loss for her family and all Mississippians, our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time.” (huffingtonpost.com)
Upshaw, 53, has served in the state legislature since 2004
