The buzz about Joey has been sky high since the end of last year. With Fuse TV placing him in their 30 must-see artists and MTV’s artists to watch, there are high expectations for his debut studio album which is being released this year.

Joey Bada$$ has had a line of success since he was in high school and he is now only 18 and has taken the underground by storm. Born and bred in Brooklyn, New York Joey originally wanted to become an actor however at a young age decided to go into music. During high school his stage name was JayOhVee and formed and is a member of the collective hip hop group Pro Era. The music industry started to notice Joey in 2010; when he uploaded a video of himself free styling onto YouTube. This video was then shared on World Star Hip Hop and was noticed by the president of Cinematic Music Group Jonny Shipes and after approaching Joey Jonny became his manager. Since then Pro Era have signed with the label, 2012 was successful for Pro Era after the release of their critically acclaimed ‘1999’ and ‘Rejex.’

As a solo artist 2013 has been busy already for Joey. At the beginning of the year he dismissed rumours of signing with a label stating he would rather stay as an independent solo artist for now. There is no date for the album release but Joey has been busy in the studio with DJ Premier, Q-Tip and Pete Rock. DJ Premier produced Joey’s free single Unorthodox which was released in January; the video was released in March. This year Joey has also released the video Underground Airplay featuring Big KRIT and Smoke DZA. At the end of March Joey is also expected to perform at the 2013 Paid Dues festival in California.

Joey has been busy up to now but with all the hype of the debut studio album it looks like Joey will be even busier throughout the year.
