Las Vegas: Inmate dies after struggle at county jailOn February 25, 2013 Corrections Officers at the Clark County Detention Center attempted to subdue an uncooperative inmate, identified as 38-year old Luis Solano. Solano resisted officers’ attempts to restrain him and an extended struggle ensued, lasting approximately three minutes.
Once Solano was restrained officers realized he was unconscious and having difficulty breathing. Emergency medical personnel quickly responded and Solano was transported to U.M.C. in critical condition. On March 6, 2013 Solano died at University Medical Center. The exact cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office. Solano was in custody on charges of Trafficking Controlled Substance-Cocaine, Conspiracy to Violate the Uniform Controlled Substance Act, and Possession of Controlled Substance Marijuana with Intent to Sell. The investigation remains ongoing. Three corrections officers and one corrections
sergeant were involved in this incident and have been placed on routine paid
administrative leave and their identities will be released after 48 hours.
