This Could Be A Year For The History Books In Louisville

The Louisville Men’s basketball team is favored to win the NCAA Championship next weekend.  That was no surprise after they destroyed the Duke Blue Devils today.

What is a major upset is that the women’s Louisville Cardinals upset the heavily favored Baylor Bears Sunday.

Baylor, who won the tournament last year, was expected to repeat.  Led by possibly the best player to have ever played women’s basketball, 6 foot 8 inch  Brittney Griner, they entered the round of 16 against Louisville confident and well-prepared.  Maybe they were too confident.

Less than 20 minutes ago we learned that Baylor is out of the tournament.  Louisville beat them 82-81.

The Lady Bears had won 32 straight games, most of them by double digits.  Monique Reid hit two free throws with 2.6 seconds left to seal the win for the Cardinals.

Can both the men’s and women’s Cardinal teams win in the same year?  The UCONN women play later tonight against Kentucky.  That game may be the answer.
