NRA Sues New York State

The NRA Loves Guns, but Hates People

New York and Colorado have put “teeth” into their gun laws.  They added restrictions and background checks that are sensible and fair, that is, unless you are the NRA.

This despicable and uncaring lobby is a perfect example of what is wrong with the United States.  Lobbyists care about profit, they don’t care about people.

In an act of stupidity that surprised no one, the NRA is suing the state of New York over its new legislation.  Once again they claim the law “violates second amendment rights”.  They are wrong as usual.  If they knew anything about the law and how it was written, they wouldn’t make that same old false and erroneous claim.  The very wording of the law was changed to protect the rights of states to make their own laws.

Every year over 31,000 people die in the United States by an individual using a gun.  That’s 7 times as many as our soldiers lost in Iraq.  That was a 10 year war.  The U.S. homicide rate is 7 times higher than the combined rates of 22 other high-income countries combined.  The U.S. is the most violent nation on earth.

Protection for the nation’s citizens is pitiful.  The NRA coerces politicians to whom they give enormous campaign contributions, and create an emotional fear with worn out clichés.

There is also evidence of stupidity and disrespect for the law in Colorado.

Routt County Sheriff Garrett Wiggins, Moffat County Sheriff Tim Jantz and Weld County Sheriff John Cooke, all Republicans, declared they won’t enforce three controversial gun control bills passed by Democrats in the Colorado Legislature that were signed into law by Gov. John Hickenlooper, also a Democrat, on Wednesday.

These men swore to serve and protect the people of their community.  If they break that oath, they should be fired.  Their only job is to uphold the law, not break it themselves.

There never will be a perfect solution to our nation’s growing gun violence.  The truth is that anyone can get any type of weapon they may want.  There are thousands of illegal gun sellers, and even some legal ones will “work around the law”.

American businesses spend billions of dollars every year attempting to brainwash the public.  They would have us believe that people come first, and customer service is their most important product.  Companies involved in energy production, oil, natural gas, and coal are the worst.  Profits are the ONLY thing that matters.

The NRA doesn’t represent gun owners, it is funded by gun manufacturers and gun sellers.  Making money is their only goal.

Republicans are the biggest beneficiary of the NRA.  Republicans all over the country feel they have the right to disobey laws if they don’t agree with them.

If the gun nuts believe what they say, then we should arm every person over the age of six years old.  It’s only fair.  The majority of those murdered by guns in the United States are women and children under the age of 18.  And women are most likely to be killed by someone they know.

Guns and violence are synonymous.  Less than 10% of those who own guns use them to hunt.  Handguns and assault rifles have only one purpose, to kill a human being.

We are a nation shrouded in fear.  The Bush administration survived by the use of fear tactics.  Fear creates ignorance, and ignorant is what we are if we believe violence is the answer to violence.

James, you liberal twit. Apparently you refuse to considered that the second amendment is the law, and recent supreme court’s decisions, District of Columbia v. Heller, and McDonald v. Chicago, have upheld it. You write about “restrictions and background checks that are sensible and fair”. How is a seven round magazine “sensible and fair”, since, with very few exceptions, does not even exist for most firearms? That restriction would essentially make most magazine fed firearms unusable. Much more could be said and written about this, but that is not really practical here. Realize that you don’t know what you are talking about, quit being so lazy, do some research before you spout off.
