A young orthodox Jewish couple was using a car service to go to the hospital. The young woman was in labor, about to deliver their first child. Nathan and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were killed when another vehicle crashed into the vehicle in which they were riding. Nathan Glauber was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital, while his wife died at Bellevue, police said.
Their baby, a boy, was delivered on the scene, taken to a hospital, and is in serious condition.
The condition of the driver transporting the couple was not announced.
The driver of the car that struck the Glauber’s fled, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Isaac Abraham, a community activist for orthodox Jews, called the couple’s death “a tragedy beyond (belief) just coming off a joyous holiday as Purim” as they were getting ready to welcome their first child.
